Two women allegedly involved in an assault appeared at Ray County Courthouse for bond reduction hearings. Sylvia L. Loy, 37, of Excelsior Springs, is charged with first-degree assault or attempt, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Brittney E. Loy, 21, of Kansas City, is charged with first-degree assault or attempt, first-degree property damage, first-degree sexual misconduct, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Both appeared before Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Lori J. Baskins on Dec. 12. Sylvia’s public defender, Rebecca M. Abeln, requested her client be released on her own recognizance (ROR) due to Sylvia having children in her home needs to care for. “The most my client would be able to post is $500, maybe $1,000,” Abeln said. Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Tara Medlin objected to an ROR (release on own recognizance) bond but did not object to the bond being reduced.
