Resilient seniors receive diplomas after difficult year

ORRICK – High school Principal Michelle Wityk said farewell to a group of “resilient” people June 27: Orrick’s Class of 2020. Wityk gave the opening remarks and served as the host for the graduation ceremony, which streamed on the Orrick R-XI School District’s Facebook page. During her speech, she commented on the students’ resiliency in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic forced Orrick, along with all other Missouri students, to halt in-school classes in March. “It is amazing to me how well our students have been able to bounce back, keeping their chins up and exhibiting true resilience with whatever comes their way,” Wityk said. “I am sure these students will never forget their senior year being interrupted by a pandemic. But the Class of 2020 won’t be defined by what they lost to the virus, but rather, by how they responded to it.” The students will need to draw on that resiliency after high school, too, Wityk said Tuesday by phone. “They have been through a lot and…
