A varied approach to scoring served the Spartans well in their 49-28 win over Lafayette County of Higginsville in the third-place game of the Husker Classic, according to Richmond varsity girls basketball coach Kaylee Vantrump.
In preparing for the Dec. 12 meeting, hosted by Lafayette County, the Spartans discussed having their post players step up to create an attack inside to help open up their perimeter game, Vantrump stated Monday via email. One of Richmond’s post players, senior Candiace Claypole, led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points.
Claypole was one of two Spartans to reach double figures. Sophomore point guard Adilyn Swope contributed 11 points “We did a much better job of finishing at the rim and making those easy shots that we had missed the night before,” Vantrump noted.
“The night before” Vantrump referred to was Richmond’s 64-39 loss to Oak Grove. Brylee Castilleja paced the varsity girls against the Panthers with 11 points. Other contributors included…
