Ray County Museum needs maintenance

With older buildings come a need for preservation and upkeep. The 113-year-old Ray County Museum has its fair share of maintenance needs, confirms Ray County Museum Director Cathy Gottsch. “Preservation of the museum is absolutely good – it brings people to the community. The museum is a valuable asset in Ray County,” said Ray County Eastern Commissioner Dave Powell. Renovating historic properties preserves a community or area’s historical, architectural character, heritage and beauty. Ray Countians for decades have donated their family heirlooms and historical items to the museum. “This is an important piece of history to the community. Many Ray Countians have had family members that lived on the farm – it has a connection to the people. The county doesn’t want it to go and that is what we are preventing,” added Gottcsh.
