Ray County Museum accepts Landau carriage donation

With the intention to honor her late husband, Marcia Claire Smith donated an 1800s Landau carriage made in Germany to the Ray County Museum this past week. Marcia’s husband, Donald Ray Smith, had a love for restoring buggies and carriages. Always a servant of his community, he lived off of Hwy 10 for 60 years. “It was my mother, Marcia’s, idea to donate it to the Ray County Museum (RCM) on behalf of Don and his family,” said Robin Fauske, Don’s stepdaughter. “For several weeks we didn’t know where it was going to end up and then out of the blue, RCM Director Cathay Gottsch called and said the museum could take it. They had found somewhere to store it as they raised funds to finish restoration.” Fauske said her mother cried when she was told RCM would accept it.
