POLISHING THEIR ACT Orrick varsity track coach Kirk Thacker saw signs of polish from his Bearcats in their season-opening meet.
He saw also his boys team win its season-opening meet.
Spurred by victories in six events, the Orrick boys took the title at the Concordia Invitational, held March 28 at Carrollton, with 151 points – 33 points ahead of runner-up Hardin-Central.
Jonathon Harris led the guys with victories in three events. Jaxon Miller, Xavior Gaskins and Lucas Walker won an event apiece.
In girls results, sophomore Addison Chapman won the 3,200 in 15:15.81. Chapman’s other contributions included a second-place finish in the triple jump, a third-place finish in the 300 low hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the long jump.
The Orrick girls also got top-four finishes from first-year high schoolers Natalie Cox and Emerie Qualls. Cox finished third in the 3,200 in 16:42.69. Qualls placed fourth in the 1,600 in 7:17.16.
