Ray County expects $4.4 million in ‘rescue’ funds
RICHMOND – Ray County expects to receive $4.4 million under the new American Rescue Plan Act.
But County Treasurer Melissa Holloway said she has not seen any rules that tell how the money may be spent.
Federal guidance is expected around May 10, Holloway told the Ray County Commission on April 30.
“That’s coming up pretty quick,” she said.
Getting legal guidance regarding how to handle the money is important, Holloway said.
The commission expects the county attorney to handle any legal questions.
“We need to get moving on that,” Holloway said.
The county cannot mingle American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA, money with either county funds or the federal CARES Act funds received last year, she said.
“It’ll be a separate checking account,” Holloway said, just as occurred with CARES Act funds.
Spending parameters for ARPA funds are broader than for CARES Act funds, Holloway said.
“It’s not going to be as complicated as what the CARES Act was,” Commissioner Gary Wilhite said.
