RICHMOND – The Ray County Commission’s agreement to sue opioid companies for the damage done to county residents showed a sign of movement toward a possible conclusion. “All they’ve got us doing right now is making signatures to go further with what they’re doing,” Presiding Commissioner Bob King said. Whether the lawsuit will produce any money for the county, or when, remains unclear, he said. “We’re getting information that we’re getting pretty close to the final settlement,” King said. Kansas City is expected to get millions from one settlement agreement, Western Commission Dave Powell said. Missouri is expected to receive nearly $500 million disbursed over 18 years as part of a settlement. Kansas City’s share of the money, about $15 million, is earmarked to combat drug use and to support mental health, The Kansas City Star reported.
