The Ray County Sheriff’s Department reminds people to let their animals in during this time of the year. Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers made a Facebook post earlier this week to acknowledge cold weather and freezing temperatures. “This weather is dangerous for animals. Unless you have appropriate heated watering containers, food and insulated shelter. Please bring them inside or get straw and a way to heat outbuildings” the post read. Also included in the post was a statement from the sheriff that pet owners would be charged with animal neglect if necessary. Childers offered his phone number, 816-729-9775 for those who need advice. “There were some comments about how dogs can survive in these colder conditions. Even a husky would need shelter in this,” he said. “Our dogs are our pets and we’ve domesticated them. If you put food down for your pet – they are domesticated. If they are out in these conditions for too long, they are suffering and susceptible to getting sick or worse…
