Orrick approves annexations, petition window opens
City officials in Orrick approved two voluntary annexation ordinances Monday after a public hearing on a proposed battery energy storage facility, giving residents two weeks to submit a petition to send the decision to a citywide vote.
The ordinances involve two separate properties, including land owned by Kathy O’Dell associated with a proposed battery energy storage system discussed during the hearing, as well as property owned by Jeff Gowing. According to city officials, the annexations allow the properties to be incorporated into city limits and outlined a process, allowing residents to submit a petition signed by at least 5% of registered voters within 14 days to place the issue on a future ballot.
Representatives for Mission Clean Energy told those in attendance the proposed battery energy storage system project is designed to store electricity and help manage demand on the power grid.
