New ice cream shop arriving soon to quell summer heat

Husband-and-wife entrepreneurs Mike and Amanda Shults are hoping all will scream for the Sweet Stop Ice Cream Shop, their soon-to-open business. A few weeks away from a grand opening, the shop is located at 104 S. Thornton St. in Richmond. The couple are renting the space to help make the goal of running an ice cream parlor a reality, Amanda Shults said. Starting small and manageable, the couple’s plan is to start by offering between eight and 11 unique flavors, said Amanda Shults, whose favorite ice cream flavors are peanut butter blast and blackberry cobbler. The hope is that customers will return and try new flavors, she said. Amanda Shults has wanted to own an eatery for as long as she can remember, she said. First, she and her husband considered operating food trucks. Then, they were presented with an opportunity to open the ice cream shop, she said.
