Shannon Morris didn’t set out to become Ray County’s public administrator, but after years of supporting individuals with disabilities, she found herself drawn to the position’s purpose. “The previous administrator was retiring and I was a support coordinator at the time,” said Morris. “I felt like I was at the point where I needed a change of employment. He said he was retiring and I signed up.” The Ray County Public Administrator acts as guardian and/ or conservator for wards and protectees, or personal representative in decedent estates, as appointed by the county court. Since taking office in January 2017, Morris has built a reputation as a tireless advocate for the people under her care. She is on call 24/7 and often answers emergency calls, hospital inquiries and late-night texts directly from those who count on her.
