MoDOT seeks public input on Lawson roundabout

A roundabout could soon change the way drivers move through Lawson’s busiest intersection, and MoDOT wants the public to weigh in. The Missouri Department of Transportation’s Kansas City district (Mo-DOT KC) will hold an open house on Oct. 9, to discuss intersection improvements at Missouri Route D and U.S. Route 69 in Lawson. Increased traffic volumes on both highways, especially during peak times, have prompted the need to improve traffic flow at the intersection. The meeting will run from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Lawson City Hall, 103 South Pennsylvania Avenue. Residents may ask questions, learn more about the project and leave comments. This is the second public meeting on the proposal. The first was held on March 27. MoDOT is recommending a roundabout at the intersection. Officials say roundabouts enhance safety by slowing traffic and eliminating left-turn movements, which reduces the risk of severe and fatal crashes.
