Missourians urged to consider insurance impact of tickets

Part One focuses on insurance and record consequences, while Part Two will explore when and how tickets may be contested. Traffic law advocates are urging Missouri drivers to understand paying a traffic ticket generally results in a conviction insurers may later review. The warning comes from Off The Record, a legal technology platform that connects drivers with local traffic attorneys in traffic cases, including in Missouri courts. The platform’s founder and chief executive officer, Alex Guirguis, emphasized many drivers underestimate what happens after a ticket is paid. Under Missouri’s Plead and Pay system, resolving a traffic citation by paying the fine typically constitutes a guilty plea, allowing the conviction to be recorded through the court system and reflected on a driver’s official record.
