Lovers Lane residents demand action on failed road surfacing
Residents of Lovers Lane pressed Ray County commissioners Wednesday to investigate why a chip-and-seal road project completed less than two years ago is already falling apart – and to compel the contractor, Vance Brothers, to fix it under warranty.
“We were very excited when the road was chip and sealed and appreciated the dust reduction, because the dust was a health issue,” said Angie Bierle, reading a statement on behalf of her husband. “Unfortunately, it didn’t last very long. The road started falling apart within a few months.”
Another neighbor, Clint Reno, described the material used on the road as something other than traditional chip seal and said it appeared to be a water-based product that dried almost instantly and lacked the durability they were promised.
“There are places where there’s already dirt and mud in the middle of the road,” explained Reno. “It had to be some sort of water-based product. This is not chip and seal that I’m accustomed to.”
