Local diner turns generosity into action
A small program at Daddy’s 10-13 Diner is quietly changing the way neighbors care for one another in Ray County. Through a new Community Table initiative, anyone can walk in, sit down and enjoy a meal that’s already been paid for by someone else.
The idea came from Manager Natalie Lamar, who wanted to make sure no one went hungry as families face uncertainty with food assistance programs.
“Due to my time with the chamber, I am aware of the percentage of our community who rely on SNAP benefits and other government programs to survive,” said Lamar. “With those benefits potentially being withheld from those who need them, many people I call family or friends and neighbors are facing food insecurity as of Nov. 1, if they weren’t already. This is one way that we are trying to help with that need.”
