Lawson VFW adds mural to honor military branches
LAWSON – Lawson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6278’s north wall is covered by a new full-color mural that pays tribute to the traditional military branches – Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard.
The newest military branch, the U.S. Space Force, is not depicted. Having been created in December 2019 under the Trump administration, many people do not know the new force exists.
Jacob Duncan executed the artwork.
Roy Cheek, a World War II veteran who served as a ball turret gunner in a bomber that flew over Nazi-led Germany, assisted Duncan with details involved in the mural.
The mural is expected to “be a huge attraction downtown for those driving by,” VFW information states.
