K9 Jinx retires, Nova joins force

To celebrate K9 Jinx, the Ray County Sheriff’s Department invites the public to the faithful dog’s retirement party at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, inside the Ray County Commissioners quarters. Jinx will be transitioned into a victim-centered dog, said Amy Sisson, Ray County lieutenant and K9 supervisor. “Jinx is medically retired so we want to send her out to begin her new role,” said Sisson. “Jinx will now be working in the office as a victim-centered dog. When we have victims of crime come in, she can be that compassion and softness for them so people can have that communication and love.” Although Jinx is retiring from the K9 position, Ray County Corporal Austin Crossland has a new partner, K9 Nova – a 13-month Belgium Malawa who is trained for narcotics and tracking. Crossland explained Nova was going to be euthanized in California for being “too hyper.” Sector K9 took Nova and she passed the training to become a law enforcement dog.
