Jail administrator talks current warrant system

Since Ray County 911 severed ties with the Ray County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD), the department now has to enter and cancel warrants on its own. Ray County Jail Administrator Melanie Pumphery explained her new process at the jail. “I am the only person here who is trained who has ever had any type of warrant entry experience, so I am doing it all. I came from Clay County dispatch. This is nothing new for me, this isn’t confusing. This is my wheelhouse,” said Pumphery. She confirmed that it’s been a little bit since she has done them, but when reaching out to Ray County 911 Dispatch, they were “phenomenal” to work with, she said. Pumphery explained the process of the warrant entries she had completed since the switch. “We receive the warrants from the courthouse directly. I pull those warrants, I do the entries, and I make copies for my staff. That way, we have the jail copy, and then I have the hard copies separate – secured in my office as per FBI guidelines,” she said. “As a…
