Humane Society: Ruff issues, high spirits

As the year progresses, the county moves into the last half of the first quarter. Ray County Humane Society is in good spirits, said Board President Atalie Blackwell. “March is looking good – things are on track,” she said, saying there were still multiple issues with the roof. “We still have to figure out the roof at some point. We had a bid of $70,000 on it,” Blackwell said. In addition, there is a room in the animal shelter that is unusable due to the waterproof damage. “We’ve had electrical issues due to the roof. So that’s scary. We’ve had an electrician come in, turns out it’s a federal pacific panel – which is a big panel and a big no-no. It is a fire risk, so that is something we have to figure out. There’s a lot to tackle.” The county-owned building was built in April 1975, according to Ray County Deputy Clerk Kathy Dugger.
