Historic Hardin Cemetery service honors the fallen

Nineteen men and women gathered at historic Hardin Cemetery on Memorial Day to remember the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for their country. Countless similar services were held across America on the holiday. A small group gathered near the flagpole and the monument commemorating the victims of the 1993 flood that devastated this particular cemetery. After singing the National Anthem and praying, the group looked back in honor of those who have passed. The Hardin Cemetery Board is led by president Stephen Shirley, who has held a venerable position since 1967. It was he who guided the thoughts of those in attendance. “Most of us have relatives buried in this cemetery that were community leaders and their stories need to be recorded,” he said. Shirley took time to honor the men and women who served in the armed forces and have been laid to rest at Hardin Cemetery.
