A traffic stop, high-speed chase and search finally ended with a Kansas City resident being tagged with 25 charges.

According to Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers, in late December, the Missouri State High Patrol attempted to stop a stolen KS vehicle on Hwy 10, driven by Derek Rudroff, 41, of Kansas City, Kan. At this time, Missouri State High Patrol could not release the make and model information of the vehicle.

“The vehicle did pull over and the driver rolled his passenger window down,” said the sheriff. “Rudroff never saw him on the passenger side window, so the patrolman knocked on the window and the driver took off.”

The pursuit began traveling east on 10 Hwy, taking the Richmond exit across 13 Hwy and then back up the 10 Hwy exit going back to 10 Hwy.

“That’s when he wrecked, on the ramp going back on 10,” said Childers. Rudroff then fled the crash scene on foot and was later found by the sheriff behind Shirkey’s Nursing Home. “Inside that area is another fencedin area. There was a door propped open. I opened it as much as I could and yelled, ‘Sheriff’s office, show me your hands now!’ I see two hands shoot up from the ground,” said Childers.

Ray County Sheriff’s Department Corporal Matt Cowan came to assist with Rudroff’s arrest. Judge Lori Baskins set the bond at $20,000 and he is being held at the Ray County Jail in Henrietta. He is facing 25 misdemeanors, charges and felonies, including receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest/detention/ stop by fleeing, leaving the scene of an accident, property damage exceeding $1,000 and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

There was confirmation of stolen credit cards and a missing gun taken from the stolen vehicle that has yet to be recovered.

“The next day after the situation, they brought a dog down that does article searching. They can smell any gunpowder, find guns or bullets. They didn’t recover anything,” said Childers.

The investigation regarding the missing items is ongoing.

Childers confirmed there were also 13 warrants for Rudroff from Kansas and Missouri.
