Hardin-Central superintendent completes doctorate

HARDIN – More than four years of work resulted in the addition of more letters – Ed.D – to Hardin-Central Superintendent Trey Cavanah’s collection of degrees. Having received a bachelor of arts in history degree from Baker University, and then masters of education and education specialist degrees through William Woods University in Fulton, Cavanah received his doctorate in education from Woods. For his latest degree, Cavanah wrote and defended a dissertation, a study based on heavy and original research. The dissertation focused on a timely topic, diversity in rural school districts. The inspiration for his work, “Transgender Student Identity and Experience in the Rural School Setting,” resulted from an event in this area. “This topic was chosen after Oak Park selected a transgender student as homecoming queen in the fall of 2015,” Cavanah said. “I was amazed of the community and school support for that event and was curious how that might transfer to a rural school environment.” …
