Girls on the Run launches in Orrick
A new program is underway in the Orrick R-XI School District to assist girls in grades 3-8.
Launched Sept. 12, the program is called Girls on the Run (GOTR). The program is part of Charlotte, North Carolina-based Girls on the Run International, a non-profit organization designed to help girls develop life skills, its website states.
Leading the Orrick program are Stephanie Schoeneck, a community member; and Rhonda Roe, a faculty member. GOTR is available in Blue Springs and Schoeneck wanted to see it implemented in Orrick, she said.
Each week, GOTR meetings will start with a “lesson” for the girls, Schoeneck said. The lessons will tie into each other, she said.
For the inaugural meeting, the girls went around the room and came up with an adjective that starts with the first letter of their given name to go in front of their name. One girl, for example, became “Happy Hadley.”
