First responder peer support training offered July 14

RICHMOND – Peer support training for first responders is coming to Richmond on July 14. The class is open to everyone who wishes to serve and minister to first responders. “Today, more than ever, first responders need our support,” said Dr. Barry Young, founder of Serving Heroes and organizer of the event. “The No. 1 killer of law enforcement, fire and military veterans is, sadly, suicide. We have to stop this threat from taking the lives of our heroes.” Richmond resident Tammy Folvarcik recently shared a story about her husband, Jerry Folvarcik, who had served the Richmond community for 16 years, first as a 911 dispatcher and then as a police officer. Folvarcik stated that her husband had left the department in August 2019 to focus on his mental health. Making little progress after attending The Battle Within, a program for mental health/therapy, and several counseling sessions, COVID-19 stalled everything for him.
