Elementary students learn parts of Chinese language
RICHMOND – Dear Elementary Principal Marlaine Boyd reported on one of the school activities this year.
“Mrs. (Shelbie) Jones’ class has so many good things to share,” Boyd stated. “While we are getting back in the swing of school, we are practicing all of our good skills and sharpening our strengths from kindergarten.”
Students are practicing “number sense and number writing,” she stated.
“We are learning to write our numbers in Chinese, thanks to our student Alina Yan, who is fluent in the language. She taught our class about numbers 1-10,” Boyd stated. “Not only is this a fun multicultural tool for our class to know; it (also) allows her and all students to be proud of who they are, and share a bit about what makes us special.
Jones’ first-graders phonetically sounded and spelled some inspirational words in Chinese for the Spartan football senior class for its senior dinner, and to be displayed at a Richmond home football game.
