Eagleton Center discusses POW camp over dinner

Area veterans left with smiles and full bellies after being treated to a home-cooked meal, compliments of the Ray County Historical Society (RCHS) and Eagleton Senior Center members. The RCHS presented its annual “Veteran’s Day Dinner” event on Veterans Day. “What a great Veteran’s Day dinner we had. Thank you, Pat Mills and Sandy Burns, for the wonderful meal, David Blyth for a great program, Deena Roe for singing the National Anthem, and to all the volunteers who lent a hand,” said Ray County Museum Director Cathy Gottsch. “You’re all much appreciated. Thank you most to the veterans to whom this dinner was dedicated. It’s such a small price on a huge debt.” Blyth, president of the RCHS, presented the program on Prisoners of War (POW) in the area during WWII. “After reading “The Enemies Among Us – POWs in Missouri” by Dave Fiedler a few years ago, we put out a message seeking information on local POW camps in Ray County and the area,” said Blyth. “Unfortunately, we didn’t get the…
