RICHMOND – To add another layer of prevention to the spread of COVID-19 and to prevent the spread of other airborne viruses, the Richmond Board of Education agreed to pay roughly $250,000 to improve air quality in district buildings. “We’re going to be putting air purifiers in each of the rooms that will clean the air of different viruses, germs, mold,” Superintendent Greg Darling said. “It’s pretty good. It’s a hydrogen peroxide style of cleaning.” The American Journal of Infection Control, based on a July study, stated, “Treatment with dry hydrogen peroxide accelerates the decay of severe acute syndrome coronavirus-2 on non-porous hard surfaces.” The effort should improve health, Darling said. “That will help the students,” he said Sept. 10. From Kansas, Lenexa-based Synexis will be paid $200,000 for purifiers for 133 classrooms, Darling said. “This company has been doing it for like 10 years, so they were ahead of their time, and now – since the virus – it’s right timing for them,”…
