DHSS says it will not prohibit licensing

The answer sought of the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) regarding postponing licensing of non-medical marijuana dispensary facilities has been received, although it was not the answer for which the petitioner was hoping. Missouri residents voted in November 2022 to allow non-medical marijuana to be sold in the state. In December 2022, First Baptist Church Richmond Pastor Willie Isaacson requested the Ray County Commissioners contact DHHS requesting that licensing of marijuana micro businesses be suspended until voters are able to decide whether they want to allow the establishments in Ray County. Isaacson believed if the commissioners took immediate action, the licensing could be postponed until 2024. The commissioners sought legal counsel regarding the request, who advised the group there could be no changes to the law until the presidential election could be held, which would be 2024.
