COVID-19 vaccine reaching nursing center residents

RICHMOND – A COVID-19 vaccine reached the arms of Oak Ridge Assisted Living Center residents last week and will reach Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center residents Monday, CEO Chris Brown said. Vaccinations also are available to Excelsior Springs assisted living residents, Clay County Health Center stated. Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based CVS Health is administering the two-dose COVID-19 vaccine across Missouri and in skilled nursing facilities in 48 other states. The second dose will come in a few weeks, Brown said. “In February and March, they’ll be back for two more clinics,” he said. Finally getting the Moderna-created vaccine for residents and staff is a relief after long months of cautious separation between facility occupants and visitors, Brown said. “Last year was the longest year I’ve ever had in this profession,” he said. Residents are mixed regarding taking the vaccine. “Our residents, about 95%, want to take it,” Brown said, but others within the two facilities…
