County celebrates jail milestone, eyes services expansion

The hum of progress is echoing through Ray County, from the newly reopened jail to the hopeful groundwork for a new building that could reshape services for residents with disabilities. County officials confirmed last week that inmates have begun returning to the Ray County Jail, marking a major milestone in an ongoing effort to modernize and reopen the facility. “We’re moving prisoners back into jail as we speak,” said Commissioner Bobby Don Davis. Credit for the accomplishment was widely shared. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank and recognize the work of the sheriff and the undersheriff and all the people on their staff, and in particular Commissioner Davis, who spent a lot of time down there,” said Commissioner Max Hockemeier. “I mean, all the commissioners have had a hand in this, but it’s taken a cooperative effort and it’s good to see that we’re finally here and prisoners are moving back.
