RICHMOND – The Ray County Commission’s legally questionable way of handling meeting agendas drew more than questions when the Missouri Attorney General’s Office filed a suit alleging the county violated the Missouri Sunshine Law. The suit, filed April 9, appears at an end, with the commission on the hook for a $1,000 fine. “We agreed to certain things,” Presiding Commissioner Bob King said Sept. 10. With the commission agreeing to follow the state’s directives, King said he anticipated the state would drop the suit. “Hopefully, that will take care of it,” King said. “Then, we have a year to clean up our act.” During the coming year, the state is empowered to review county meeting notices to ensure compliance. “We agreed to abide by the Sunshine Law,” King said. “(The AG’s) office said we were doing a lot better job.” The state sued following a complaint filed in June 2020 by Lawson City Administrator Matt Nolker about the lack of transparency – “the same good-old-boy crap” – evident…
