Councilman-commissioner drops city seat

Posted in:
RICHMOND – Ray County Commissioner/Richmond City Councilman Dave Powell resigned his council seat Tuesday. Powell said he received legal assurance he could hold both seats, but would have to recuse himself on issues regarding the city and county to avoid conflicts of interest. “Even though I could abstain, I just felt that I had better be safe than sorry and not cause any issues between the commissioners and the city council,” he said. The person apppointed as his replacement, Sarah Green, is someone he knows and trusts to do a good job for the city, Powell said. “It’s great to get somebody under 60 and 70 years old,” he said. “Get some young blood in and get some young ideas. I think it’s going to be a good move for them.” Powell will continue to serve as Ray County’s Eastern District commissioner.
