Council notes fewer homes with lead piping than anticipated

Richmond City Council discussed progress in the Lead Line Replace Project during a recent meeting and announced a decrease in the number of homes presumed to have lead water lines. Richmond City Administrator Tonya Willim explained the initial list of homes with lead lines has significantly decreased following further inspection. “Public Works Director Dale Shipp went to class with the Department of Natural Resources and learned that under the new guidelines, the city is responsible for replacing lead lines from the main line to the water meter, while homeowners are responsible for replacing the section from the meter to their home if it has been identified as lead,” said Willim. “The city has already identified eight confirmed residential lead lines and will start working on a plan to replace the lines the city is responsible for.” In other news, the council addressed a range of pressing issues, including emergency repairs to a fire truck and the purchase of new computers for the…
