Commission writes check, pays Mo. fine

Posted in:
RICHMOND – Ray County schools will share the tiny windfall of a $1,000 fine paid by the Ray County Commission. The commissioners signed the check Sept. 16. The money will go to the state for disbursement to the schools. The commission paid the fine resulting from Sunshine Law violations investigated earlier this year and prosecuted by the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. The investigation focused on the commission’s meeting agendas in May. The office found commission agendas failed to stick to established meeting times and failed to include all information discussed in meetings, including plans to disburse federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act funds. Commissioners acknowledged the mistakes, acted to correct the mistakes and settled the suit in cooperation with the Attorney General’s Office.
