Commission questioned on noise complaints, county authority
A Ray County resident urged the Ray County Commission to clarify what protocol is when loud music continues late into the night near neighboring properties and businesses. The request came during public comment at a recent commission meeting as Megan Pendleton described calls to the sheriff’s department and questioned why one venue may face quiet-time limits while another does not.
Pendleton told commissioners the music had been ongoing for weeks and said she believed expectations were being applied differently between properties operating as venues. She described late-night noise she said could be heard from her home and referenced nearby events at Rose Blossom Hill, a wedding and event venue in Rayville, while questioning why one location would be subject to quiet- time limits while another was not, referencing Ray Rocks Off-Road Resort.
“If we can force one venue to shut down at a certain time, why can we not force another?” said Pendleton.
Commissioners responded the situation…
