Commission addresses bridge safety

Bridge safety and routine contracts shared the agenda as Ray County commissioners moved through a series of projects and maintenance items during their most recent session. Resident Aaron Hicks raised concerns about the old highway overpass in Henrietta, where businesses operate directly beneath the structure. “I was standing there with an electrician last week when a large chunk of concrete fell out,” said Hicks. “He saw it; it’s Morris Electric. I don’t know if you’re aware of the condition it’s in or not, but there are large chunks of concrete that fall out. I mean, you can see it lying there on the ground now, under the overpass.” Commissioners acknowledged they were aware of an inspection by Great Rivers Engineering, but not of recent falling debris. “I was not aware of big chunks of concrete,” stated Presiding Commissioner Shelia Tracy. “I was aware of the issues where they are going to be doing a study, but I was not aware that big chunks were coming down.” Staff were…
