The Humane Society of Ray County’s new-year event was deemed a success, raising $6,838 and counting. Board President Atalie Blackwell described the fundraiser as ‘good’ and said the board is looking to host more fundraisers in 2023. Blackwell said it is surreal how much things have turned around and the benefits fundraising efforts have brought them. She noted the journey began with a feeling of defeat but they are now being encouraged. “We’ve raised $28,000 from October to December. We don’t feel like we are so far from a new shelter,” said the board president. “I want to thank our sponsors, volunteers, board members and the community.” The sponsors were Hometown Pizza, Tru Vision Photography, The Ridge Wedding & Event Venue, Reece & Nichols Real Estate, Sisco Land Surveying LLC, Elite Rail Services LLC, Long Veterinary Clinic and Gentle Dog Training, as well as Kurtis Surls, who donated liquor for the event.
