CAP dedicates craft night to to lifting children’s spirits
Ray County Community at Play (CAP) recently coordinated a craft night at the Ray County Library with the intention of residents simply having fun together. However, the plan and purpose changed once CAP members were inspired by a young Ray County girl who battled cancer.
The girl shared her feelings of being forgotten and how lonely it can be while in a hospital, especially when there for extended periods of times, explained CAP Implementer Cassie Hobeck.
“We decided to dedicate this event to making hearts and attaching labels to let the kids at Children’s Mercy know they have not been forgotten and they matter,” Hobeck said, noting their special craft night results in 221 yarn hearts to be gifted.
People from Kearney, Excelsior Springs, Lexington, Orrick and Richmond join in the event.
Hobeck said everyone voiced they had really enjoyed visiting one another while making a gift that will hopefully brighten the day of a child by reminding them that they are loved.
