Boothe 109 store debuts for Mushroom Festival

RICHMOND – Although debuting on the square during the Richmond Mushroom Festival, Boothe 109 is the name of a store, not a festival booth. With people walking out holding ice cream cones, Boothe 109 must be an ice cream shop. Right? “It’s not an ice cream shop,” employee Johnna Gilfillan said, “but we do sell ice cream.” At the festival, but not a booth? Selling ice cream, but not an ice cream shop? So, what is Boothe 109? The store offers eclectic groupings of merchandise for sale, manager Renee Kellerman said April 30. “We have a beautiful Western area,” Kellerman said, and among other areas in the store are paintings and Christian items. “We have a food court in the back.” The food area offers ice cream, nachos, smoked sausages and soft drinks, Kellerman said. She demonstrated by placing a scoop of chocolate ice cream into a vanilla cone. In the store window stand several oldtime slot machines, adding to an atmosphere that boasts variety for shoppers.
