Blunt seeks security oversight; Hawley loses major supporters

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Missouri, is among those who plan hearings and joint oversight of security failures after a mob stormed the Capitol and interrupted the formal count of the Electoral College votes. Before the insurrection, Blunt did not support his state’s junior senator, Josh Hawley, in the call Jan. 6 for “Congress to launch a full investigation of potential fraud and election irregularities and enact election integrity measures.” Hawley’s questioning of Presidentelect Joe Biden’s election helped spur last week’s insurrection. Hawley greeted protestors at the Capitol by raising his fist in solidarity. The Kansas City Star said Hawley has “blood on his hands” and joined The St. Louis Post-Dispatch in calling on Hawley to resign. Leading Missouri Republicans – former U.S. Sen.
