JEFFERSON CITY – Soybean farmers and consumers across the Midwest, including in Ray and Clay counties, could find a stronger market for soybean oil in Missouri, if legislation proposed by Sen. Denny Hoskins passes. The “if” looms huge, with the coronavirus having turned this year’s General Assembly session into a swamp that threatens to allow few of this year’s crop of bills to win approval. Hoskins’ proposed Missouri-Made Fuels Act, if it manages to get through the legislative process, would create a biodiesel fuel standard in Missouri. Beginning with a 5% biodiesel blend in 2022, the act would require all diesel fuel sold in Missouri to contain 20% plantbased fuels by 2024. “We’re looking to do something with that soybean byproduct, that oil,” he said.
