Area Fire District seeks approval for tax
A proposed property tax increase for the Lawson Fire & Rescue Protection District will appear before voters on the April 7 municipal ballot. The proposal would provide funds necessary to meet National Fire Protection Association standards, guarantee adequate pay for personnel and replace equipment when needed.
The ballot question asks: “ Shall the board of directors of the Lawson Fire & Rescue Protection District be authorized to levy an additional property tax of not more than forty-six cents on the one hundred dollars assessed valuation to provide funds for the support of the district to provide staffing necessary for NFPA 1710 standards, ensure adequate pay for our dedicated firefighters and EMT’s and replace aging equipment?” NFPA 1710 is a standard from the National Fire Protection Association that establishes recommended staffing levels, response times and operational guidelines for fire departments.
