Weeks after a fire destroyed multiple structures at Sunshine Lake, Ray County officials and relief representatives met with residents at the Eagleton Center to discuss recovery needs, available assistance and the legal problems already hanging over the campground. The meeting followed a Feb. 19 fire on Sportsman Road that destroyed six structures and threatened several others in the Sunshine Lake area. Fire crews from multiple departments spent 23 hours on scene battling flames fueled by dry, windy conditions as law enforcement evacuated residents from the area. As recovery efforts continued in the weeks after the fire, county officials, emergency management personnel and relief organizations gathered with residents to address immediate needs and explain the challenges affecting rebuilding efforts at the campground.
