Richmond City Council approved the new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Parking Spaces in the downtown area. This includes adding spaces for ADA vans and cars, erecting signs, striping parking spaces and the removal of one existing space. Requested by Richmond Public Safety and Richmond Public Works, the project and design were discussed at a recent city council meeting. Bill No. 23, Section 20 amends certain sections of the downtown’s ADA vehicle parking. “Prior to us starting our micro surfacing and striping project, we developed a plan for ADA parking in the downtown area,” said Richmond City Administrator Tonya Willim. She told council members there was a map which showed proposed and pre-made ADA parking spots. “The black squares show the existing parking spaces, the blue shows the proposed and the red one shows a removal,” she noted, referring to the map. “These do comply with the 2010 ADA Standard for Accessible Design for the minimum number required.” Councilwoman…
