Linda Jean Bengston

Linda Jean Bengston, 91, of Richmond, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Jean was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Ray County, the daughter of David Kell and Lillian (Wall) Bryant. Jean was united in marriage to Howard Lewis Baker from Arkansas June 5, 1949, and they had three daughters. He preceded her in death June 22, 1986. Jean married Rev. Daniel Alfred Bengston of Richmond Jan. 16, 1988; he preceded her in death Jan. 26, 2009.

Survivors include her daughters: Cathy (Mike) Habermehl of St. Joseph; Ellen MacDonald and Laura Baker, both of Richmond; a sister, Betty Daniel of Richmond; a stepson, Philip (Ann) Bengston of Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Lois Ann (Wayne) Douglas of North Carolina; grandchildren, Jason (Kim) Christian, Hayley Green, Meghan (Ray) Lee and Barry Green; stepgrandchildren: Dan (Rebekah) Bengston, Adam Bengston, Jason (Laura) Douglas, Nate (Rhea) Douglas; six great-grandchildren, nine stepgreat-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her beloved cat Nudge and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, a sister, Emily Hunt, and brothers, Don Bryant and her twin, Jack Bryant.

Jean grew up in the area of her birth and graduated from Richmond High School. Jean was a lifelong active member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. She was a strong voice for nearly 70 years in the choir and served the church in many other capacities. She was a loving and devoted mother. She was a role model of what a mother, grandmother and a friend should be and nothing made her happier than to be around family and friends. Along with her many close friends; she treasured her special bond with her sister, Betty.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church. They may be dropped off or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St. – P. O. Box 190, Richmond, 64085.

Memorial services for Jean will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Richmond. Inurnment will be by the family at a later date at Richmond Memory Gardens.
