Virginia Louise White-Foster

Virginia Louise White-Foster, 96, of Richmond, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, at Liberty Hospital.

Virginia was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Richmond, to Edward “Teddy” and Leah Elizabeth (Woodward) Cox. She first married Oliver Hiram “O. H.” White Jr., of Richmond, on Oct. 14, 1939; he preceded her in death June 26, 1981. She then married Everett Jefferson “E.J.” Foster, of Richmond, on Sept. 10, 1994; he preceded her in death Oct. 1, 2014.

Survivors include: one son, Bruce Edward White (Sue) of Richmond; one daughter, Pamela Ann Thierry (Mitch) of Richmond; one sister, Violet May Yoakum of Richmond; two grandchildren, Teddy White (Kelly) and Kathryn Mehan; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin White, Austin Pettiecord and Alexa Mehan.

Virginia was reared and educated in Richmond, graduating from Richmond High School. She worked at her family’s business, Cox’s Floral and Greenhouse, from 1955 to 1977. She enjoyed doing floral designing throughout her life. Virginia’s husband, O.H. White Jr., was the Ray County Tax Collector. After his death, Virginia was elected to follow in his footsteps as Ray County Tax Collector, serving from 1983 to 1995. Virginia was a lifelong Richmond resident and active in her community. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, past president of FTD, a Shrinette, and a Red Hatter. Virginia was a faithful member of the Richmond United Methodist Church.

The family suggests memorial contributions to  Kansas City Children’s Mercy Hospital or to Shriner’s Hospital for Children. They can be left at, or mailed to, Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St. – P.O. Box 190, Richmond MO 64085.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Richmond Memory Gardens. Online condolences may be left at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
