Raymond Edward VanOster

Raymond Edward VanOster, 79, of Orrick, died on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Raymond was born Oct. 25, 1938, at Lowry City, the son of Raymond Alphonzo and Anna Dorothy (Lines) VanOster. He married Dixie Lee McKown of Orrick on July 18. 1959. She preceded him in death Dec. 1, 2013.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Rosa Shirley and her husband, Eugene, of Camden and Tamri Bayer and her significant other, Harry Moberly Jr., of Lawson; four grandchildren: Paul (Jandy) Shirley, Tina (Devin) Creason, Dana (Jim) Cravens and Austin Findley; eight great-grandchildren: Christina Cravens, Lindsay Cravens, Alexis Cravens, Charmaine Creason, Zane Creason, Braden Creason, Xavier Creason and Jayden Shirley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Mary Propst.
Raymond graduated from Orrick High School in 1957. He lived most of his life in Orrick. He was a self-employed carpenter by trade. Raymond was the past president of the Ray Clay Radio Club. He loved old cars and was an honorary member of the Country Cruisers Car Club. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and was a member of the Habot Blue Grass Club. He was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church. Not only was he a carpenter, he loved working with wood. He made bird houses and many other items.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Thursday. Inurnment will be in South Point Cemetery, east of Orrick following services at the funeral home.
