Robert Russell

Robert George Russell, 89, of Richmond died Monday, July 9, 2018 at North Kansas City Hospital.

Robert was born on July 21, 1928 near Lake View in Ray County, Missouri, to Roscoe E. and Elsie B. (Dooley) Russell. He married Lena Mae Tate of Ten Mile, Missouri, on June 17, 1947. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2011.

 Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Pam Russell of Henrietta, Missouri; two daughters, Thalia J. Russell of Richmond and Rhonda F. Taber of Richmond; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and wife, Glenda, Russell of Hardin; sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and husband, Ben, Early of Simpsonville, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Jason Taber and his fiancée, Cheryl Curtis, Angela and Erik Osborn, Jocelyn and Matt Hollingsworth, Bob Russell, James Russell, Jonathan and Nicole Russell and Tate Russell; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Lou Tate of Macon, Missouri; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don and Alberta Tate of Galena, Missouri; Paul and Phyllis Tate of Macon; and Robert’s good friend, Peggy Sullard of Richmond.

In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Russell in infancy; and his son-in-law, Fred “Buddy” Taber, III.

Robert worked for 30 years for General Motors and retired as an inspector. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local Union No. 31. After retiring from General Motors he drove school bus for Fowler Bus Line in Richmond for 20 years.

Robert was very active and a lifelong member of the Richmond First Baptist Church, he was Deacon Emeritus. He was active in his community over the years and belonged to many clubs and organizations.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Richmond First Baptist Church Youth Ministry or the Shriner’s Hospitals for children.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Richmond First Baptist Church. A Masonic service will be held at 6:45 p.m., prior to visitation, which will be from 7 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
