Joy Payne

Joy Marie Payne, age 23, was taken to be with Jesus on July 5, 2018.
Joy was born on Sept. 22, 1994, to Don and Nita Payne. She is a lifelong resident of Lawson, Missouri, graduating with the class of 2013.
Joy had a wonderful high school experience. She was a National Honor Society member. This was a major victory for her, and one she worked diligently to obtain. Being diagnosed with dyslexia when she was in fourth grade, Joy had to overcome many obstacles, and be very dedicated to her studies. Her discipline was truly something to admire. It also served her well in her sports career. She was an outstanding volleyball player and truly loved the sport. She was a State Track Qualifier three years in a row. She ran the 4×4, 4×8, and the one-mile. Joy loved to sing and participated in high school choir. She loved her close friends and classmates dearly. She was blessed to have their love in return.
After graduating high school, Joy became a cosmetologist. She has worked for her dear friend Valerie Blankenship for the past three years. This spring they opened a brand-new shop on Broadway, in downtown Excelsior Springs, called “Waves on Broadway.” The inspiration behind the name comes from Psalms 93:4: “Mightier than the waves of the sea is His love for you.” Joy was so thankful to be a part of this new venture. She felt blessed that she got to do something she loved, helping people feel beautiful and look beautiful.
Joy is the baby of six children. She is an amazing gift, not only to her parents, but also to her three sisters and two brothers. She is a cherished granddaughter, niece, and cousin.
Joy’s favorite thing in this life was being an aunt. She has nine nieces and two nephews. Almost all of her free time was spent with them, doing all the things they loved to do. She served her family selflessly. If Joy wasn’t with her little people, you could find her with her beloved dog, “Daisy.”
Joy grew up attending Lawson Assembly of God. In 2013 she gave her heart to Jesus Christ and was baptized. The past two years have been a beautiful time of growth in her relationship with Jesus. She was committed to knowing Him, loving Him to her best ability, and sharing His truth and love with others. Her profession had led her to a great mission field. Everyday God would lead people to her chair. They thought they had just come to get their hair done, but through their appointment, God would use Joy to listen to their hearts as they shared, and He would give her the opportunity to minister the Gospel. She served God faithfully. We know that her greatest desire is for everyone to know Jesus the way she knows Jesus. So they can be with Him one day, the way she has now been taken to Him. Joy served God faithfully.
Her family wishes to thank the countless friends and family who have offered their condolences, love, and help. We invite you to come and celebrate the wonderful person God gifted to this world. Please come and worship Him with us, as we thank Him for the blessed hope He has given us through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Lawson Assembly of God, 527 W. 6th St., Lawson. Her Celebration Service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2018, also at the church.
